ORIGINS
Swedish massage was developed and popularized by Per Henrik Ling in the 19th century. This type of massage is the most well known and popular in North America
WHAT IS IT?
Swedish massage is a manual physical technique that concentrates on musculature and therapeutic work but can be used for relaxation and stress relief.
DESCRIPTION OF A SESSION
Swedish massage is generally given on a massage table. The hands of the therapist are in direct contact with the receiver. An oil or a cream is used to facilitate the movements. The motions are large and encompassing and the depth is acquired gradually. Only one region of the body is massaged at one time and only this area is bared using a technique called "drapage" for comfort and to safeguard intimacy. A Swedish massage can be very superficial or very deep according to the client's desire.
BENEFITS
Swedish massage stimulates blood flow and accelerates lymphatic circulation. It soothes muscular pain and tension, improves sleep patterns and shortens recuperation time.
